PARTNERING -
A way to do more for less
Lean and mean with increased performance is the demand made of those delivering HR services in today's competitive environment. Partnering is a vehicle to provide an increased range of HR services with the flexibility to continuously align to your changing needs. Cost effectiveness evolves from the fact that you pay for what you use as you use it. Globalisation of the market places further pressure on companies to provide more services and increase productivity from their people. At the same time economic reality means this must be achieved with less resources. Innovative companies are using new strategies to deliver better product and partnering is one flexible, cost effective system.
Partnering is currently being used in many areas of business. Human Resources is an area well suited to partnering arrangements. Often demand requires a wide range of skills, all of which for most companies employing the range of professionals, training specialists, psychologists or other can be cost prohibitive. In a partnering arrangement a full and integrated range of services can be provided, the two companies collaborating to target the needs and new directions as they develop.
If your company is considering an opportunity to participate in a partnering arrangement you should first assess whether or not your organisation and people can gain maximum benefit from this relationship.
Prior to committing your company you should make an assessment of your organisation to identify any weaknesses which will greatly reduce the likelihood of failure, with the relationship. Key elements are people oriented. What is your corporate culture? Is it based on trust, open communication, empowerment and a commitment to innovation? If this is the case your team will easily embrace and benefit from a partnering agreement.
The personal skills of the team needs consideration. Are they flexible, able to negotiate and resolve issues quickly? These people will be a key element of your team to ensure success. Other personal skill sets may be better utilised elsewhere in your organisation.
If your prior assessment says yes to the above then your organisation is in a position to further capitalise on this base. A partnering arrangement can allow you to deliver a fully integrated range of HR services, in a flexible and cost effective manner.
As with all new initiatives there must be a commitment to the new. The commitment must be seen clearly at the top of an organisation and with the people working in the partnering team.
